A discovery-call outline can help you remember what to ask while leaving room to listen. Use a few prompts to understand the person’s situation, explain relevant help, and agree on a next step.

Adapt the wording below to the relationship and your usual speaking style.

The 5-Part Discovery Call Framework

Here is a five-part outline to practice:

1. Set the Frame (Control Without Pressure)

Explain the purpose of the call before asking detailed questions.

Script:

“Hey [Name], before we dive in, this call is really just to understand what you’re looking for and see if I’m the right fit to help. Sound good?”

2. Build Context (Not Small Talk)

Skip forced small talk. Go straight to relevant context.

Script:

“What made you decide to start looking right now?”

3. Ask Strategic Discovery Questions

Choose questions that help you understand the situation.

Core Questions to Use

Situation

“What’s your current living situation right now?”

Motivation

“What’s most important for you in this move?”

Timeline

“Ideally, when would you like to make this happen?”

Pain Point

“What’s been the most frustrating part so far?”

Leave Room for an Answer

After asking a question, pause. Let the person finish before asking the next one, and follow up when something is unclear.

4. Position Your Value (Without Sounding Salesy)

Connect the help you can actually provide with the need the person described.

Script:

“Based on what you shared, what I typically help clients with is [specific solution]. The goal is to make this process a lot smoother and avoid [their pain point].”

5. Close with Clarity (Not Pressure)

Name a specific next step and ask whether it would be useful.

Script:

“The next step would be [specific action]. Would you like to move forward with that?”

If they hesitate:

“No pressure at all, just want to make sure this feels right for you.”

Simple Discovery Call Script Template (Copy & Use)

Opening

“Hey [Name], this call is just to understand what you’re looking for and see how I can help.”

Discovery

“What made you start looking right now?” “What’s most important for you in this move?” “What’s been frustrating so far?”

Positioning

“Based on that, here’s how I typically help…”

Close

“Next step would be [X]. Want to move forward?”

Common Mistakes Introverted Agents Make

1. Over-preparing, then freezing

Keep a short outline in front of you rather than trying to memorize every sentence.

2. Talking too little

Listening is good, but you still need to guide.

3. Avoiding the close

Ask about the next step directly and leave room for the person to decline.

How to Practice Without Burnout

For practice:

  • Writing your script once
  • Practicing it out loud 3–5 times
  • Using it on your next real call

After a practice call, note which question was hard to say or did not help you understand the person’s needs. Revise that part before the next conversation.
